Hay-a-Park walk September 2005

Andrew Willoughby was our leader on last Saturday's walk to the west of Knaresborough. Our party of fourteen left Castle School on a dull and damp day and headed north-east to cross the Harrogate-York railway line and pass the south side of the artificial lake formed by former gravel workings. Here, aquatic wildlife was in abundance with a dozen adult swans enjoying themselves. The high ground to the east of the lake afforded an excellent prospect of the area. Leaving the lake, our path lay to the east. Walking over little-used paths past Hall and Oakwood farms almost to the hamlet of Coneythorpe before turning north to pick up the Knaresborough Round path. Lunch was taken close to Near Andrew Hill after which our route of seven and a half miles was completed via Hopewell House and the track on the west side of the lagoon via Sweet Bits Farm.
