Last Saturday, on a rather cloudy day, nineteen members and guests met at Spofforth Castle for an eleven-mile ramble taking in Wetherby and Sicklinghall. Led by Peter Wells, the group initially followed the cycleway from Spofforth to Wetherby turning south on the outskirts of The Town towards Linton Ings. After a pleasant break at the sportsfield, the group crossed the golf course following The Ebor Way into Linton village. Turning left after the Village Hall the, walkers followed the pleasant byway that leads to the river and Linton Bridge. After a short stretch by the river the group ascended the hill to rejoin The Ebor Way at Trip Lane. The Way was then followed through the woods and over fields to Sicklinghall House where a left turn was taken on a bridleway which led to Sicklinghall. Light rain encouraged us to seek shelter outside the village hall for lunch after which we resumed our walk in a northerly direction to join Fox Heads Lane and pass the first of many conifer plantations. Our walk was notable for having very few stiles which was as well when the pace quickened in deteriorating weather conditions! On reaching High Lane the group turned right to return to our starting point in Spofforth.
