Riffa to Harewood
Public transport provided an excellent service for Saturday's nine-mile ramble in Lower Wharfedale. Starting from Riffa, our group of sixteen, led by Michael Lowsley, headed south on the footpath by Ings Farm to walk beside the River Wharfe to Pool Bridge. After crossing the river we walked through Pool Village to ascend a short stretch of the A658 road to Staircase Lane and hence to Bramhope. A short break in the grounds of the Puritan Chapel was enjoyed in glorious sunshine after which the bridleway through Crag Wood was followed along the side of Arthington Bank. The Ebor Way route was then joined along Bank Top Lane with a lunch break offering tremendous views along the valley. The Ebor Way was followed through the grounds of Harewood House as far as the church, the grounds of which contained a wonderful display of snowdrops. For many of us, the sight of the Red Kites manoeuvring at low level in glorious sunshine as we walked through the park, provided 'the icing on the cake' of a glorious day.
