Cayton, Sawley and Bishop Thornton
Sixteen walkers enjoyed wonderful weather during last Saturdays twelve-mile ramble from Ripley. Following a route devised by John Taylor, the group headed north along The Nidderdale Way to High Cayton. Here, we left The Way to take the bridleway through Hob Green and Haddockstones. Still heading north the group paused to enjoy the serene beauty of The Fish Pond in Fountains Park before reaching the mid point of our walk at Sawley Hall. Our lunch spot, close to Hebden Beck was bathed in full winter sun after which well used footpaths brought us to Bishop Thornton. The last, very enjoyable, ascent of the day awaited us in the climb to Hill Top to enjoy 'birds eye' views over Shaw Mills. The final stages of our walk made use of the permissive path established by Sir Thomas Ingleby past High Rails Farm to reach the bridleway around Ripley Park back to our starting point.
