Burton Leonard ..... Guy Fawkes walk

We were fortunate to have much better weather than had been forecast for Saturday's eight-mile walk from Burton Leonard. Led at short notice, by Agnes Farrar, the thirteen walkers headed initially south-west to South Stainley before circling back to Mickle Hill. The bridleway over a swollen Robert Beck led us on to Green Lane and over Warren Covert. A left turn brought us past Walkingham Hill Farm to join The Copgrove Road into Staveley. After a pleasant lunch stop by the green, with Delias plot toffee as desert, we followed the path around the lagoons at Staveley Mill Farm where we enjoyed a great display of wildfowl and birds basking in the weak sunshine. We may be one of the last groups to follow the field path over to Roecliffe Lodge, as this is planned to be replaced by an alternative route via Newfields Farm. From The Lodge, well used paths brought us to Foster Flatts Farm. The final section of our way was via Moor Farm and Holber Hill.
